Information For Our Clients

What to expect when you come in for an appointment:

Vermont Veterinary Internal Medicine is generally in the hospital Monday to Thursday from 8am - 5pm. Our business operates within Burlington Emergency and Veterinary Specialists (BEVS) and they are open 24/7 so you are able to call and schedule an appointment at anytime.

Our front desk staff will be able to assist you with an estimate of the initial exam fee. Any additional testing and treatment will not be known until your pet is examined. In most cases, the front desk staff member or a nurse will be unable to give you a full estimate until your pet has been seen. Once we have completed the exam of your pet, we will provide you with an estimate of your pet's treatment options, plans, and costs.

Please download and complete our Client/Patient Information Form and Medical History Form and bring them with you on the day of your scheduled appointment.

Appointment Procedures:

*IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU DO NOT FEED YOUR PET AFTER 8PM THE EVENING BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT. ALLOW ACCESS TO WATER THE EVENING BEFORE, UNLESS IF YOU HAVE ALREADY BEEN ADVISED BY ONE OF OUR STAFF MEMBERS OTHERWISE.

  • Please make sure you bring any pertinent information with you on the day of your appointment. This could include x-rays, blood test results, and any prescriptions. If possible a referral form completed by your veterinarian is also helpful.
  • Please arrive 15 minutes early to complete any forms needed.
  • 3. If you are unable to keep your appointment, please give us a 24-hour notice.
  • 4. Upon arrival, you will be asked to complete our Client/Patient Form (if not already completed prior to the appointment) by one of our front desk staff members.
  • 5. The doctor and his/her nurse will meet with you to discuss your pet's medical history, condition and evaluate your pet with a thorough exam. The doctor may also perform a more thorough exam away from the exam room in one of our treatment areas. At this point, our medial team will have a better idea on how to proceed with diagnostics, treatment plan options and costs.

We typically see appointments from 9am-12pm, then start procedures in the afternoon. The appointment time is for the consultation and examination. If we recommend a procedure (i.e. Ultrasound, endoscopy, etc...), we will make every effort to perform the procedure in a timely manner. However, your pet may need to be admitted to the hospital for the day to allow time for the procedure to occur in the afternoon or it may need to be scheduled the next possible business day. Please be prepared to leave contact information if you leave the hospital during procedures.
